Anders Szalkai, 48, Stockholm

I am a running guru who has coached countless runners through my successful training programs. Still running with joy and the late Swedish  male winner of the Stockholm Marathon, which I won in 2001. A former Olympian over the marathon distance, I am now Chief Editor of magazine Runner’s World in Sweden.

Stockholm

Riche

Anders Szalkai

“In my twenties the combined bar, restaurant and night club Riche became one of my favourite places to go, and even if my visits aren’t as frequent nowadays I still love it. It has a relaxed atmosphere and the crowd is varied, and if you’re lucky you can spot one or two celebrities.”

When you have finished your delicious three-course dinner or just a simple starter, you can easily move over to the bar to continue your evening.

Stockholm

Brioche

Anders Szalkai

“My favourite coffee shop and bakery is Brioche, located at Alviks Torg in Stockholm. Brioche is right by my job at Runner’s World, but that’s not why it’s my favourite, but because they are baking all their amazing bread on-site, and since bread is my one big weakness I am happy to have Brioche just down the stairs.”

A visit at Brioche is a great way to finish a run in the woods along the water by Alvik.

Stockholm

Hammarbybacken

Anders Szalkai

“On the outskirts Stockholm you find an alpine ski-slope very near the city. In the winters you can go skiing, but that’s not why I’m there. I love to take on the grueling climb the hill offers. The slope is really tough but still not too steep so you can run all the way up, and the reward is a stunning view of Stockholm when you reach the top.”

If you can run up the hill without building lactic acid, then you know that you are in great shape.

Stockholm

Olympic Stadium

Anders Szalkai

“Stockholm Olympic Stadium was the arena for the Olympic games of 1912 and is absolutely my favourite place to train. The atmosphere in the arena is amazing and It’s a unique possibility that anyone can gain access to the stadium and run on the same track as many Olympic legends.”

Crossing the finish line as winner of the Stockholm Marathon and hearing the cheers of the crowd in the arena was an amazing feeling that I will always carry with me.
